Have you noticed lately that the mainstream media companies have started to embrace the concept of social networks? CNN, Fox News, MSNBC News, etc. all have their own Twitter and Facebook pages. Even their websites have links to share via Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc. So, is journalism the next step for social networking? It seems like mainstream news media have embraced the idea. Even the hosts of TV news channels have their Twitter accounts to keep in constant contact with readers.
Social networking has also another dimension added to citizen journalism. News seem to break first on Twitter, Reddit, CNN's iReport etc. even before they show up on mainstream media such as CNN, etc. Even the mainstream media has begun to pick up stories of these social networks.
Nowadays everyone can act as a citizen journalist of using social networks. This means that people tweet, reddit, mizozo, etc. such as news happens.
Different websites have different way of enabling citizen journalism. Twitter can user Microsoft updates from almost anywhere. Reddit lets people comment on news articles. Mizozo.com lets users collaborate, Supplement, and argue with the help of mizozos (mizozo in swahili means argument or opinion). So, with all these tools for ordinary people like us it means that this lead to end government censorship, political and personal bias to will? It seems like the next generation of wars will not happen by duping citizens of a country with misinformation. Leaders/dictators cannot suppress news, but to deal with the consequences of their wrong deeds.
These sites have really flattened the world with everyone standing up to the minute information that results in the rejection of leaders of countries to twist situations for their own benefit. With less confusion and censorship, would make the world a better place to live! Let us end all these media bias forever!
