China shall monitor the capacity of expansion of the industry of non-ferrous metals, with their rate of annual growth of 10 metals reach less than 8 per cent on the Plan's five year XII (2011-2015), an industry official said.
Kang Yi, the former head of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, said that the industry also update its structure and improve the quality and effectiveness of the five-year Plan period.
The combined output of 10 non-ferrous metals, including copper, aluminum, lead and zinc, is limited to 41 million tonnes, according to the Association.
"Three to five China nonferrous metal enterprises appears among the Fortune 500 companies, while more than 10 companies have annual incomes exceeding 100 million Yuan (15.)" "($30 million)," said.
The Association estimated that demand for non-ferrous metals 10 is likely to exceed 43.8 million tonnes by the year 2015.
Kang said that the industry will strictly control the new capacity of cast iron in regions that do not have resources and encourage the transfer of capacity of aluminium electrolytic to Western China.
By 2015, China will have producers of aluminum and copper with 200,000 tonnes of capacity, accounts for 90 percent of the production of copper in the country and 95 per cent of its production of aluminum.
The industry also aims to preserve 8.95 million tons of standard coal and reduce emissions of CO2 by 24 million tonnes by the year 2015, Kang said, adding that the industry will increase the proportion of recycled metals and develop the concentration of the industry.
Ministry of industry and information technology - in collaboration with the Ministry of science and technology and the Ministry of finance - China announced a plan in February almost doubling the production capacity of metal recycled by 2015.
Under the plan, recycled copper, aluminum and lead output will reach 12 million tonnes in the year 2015, compared to 6.33 million tonnes in 2009.
The provinces of Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangxi and Shandong, and Tianjin municipality will focus on the development of recycled copper; Province of Chongqing, Shanghai and Hainan the priority will be given to develop recycled aluminium; and the provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu and Hubei will concentrate on recycled lead.
At the end of 2015, China is expected to create companies capable of producing 100,000 tons of recycled copper and aluminium every year and 50,000 tons of recycled lead.
China is at the stage of development in their use of recycled metals. The industry lacks administration and effective regulation and low concentration.
There are more than 300 producers of lead recycling throughout the country, which had an average capacity of 4,100 tonnes in 2009. Only two producers of recycled copper have more than 100,000 tons annual production, while others produce about 30,000 tonnes a year.
